Protests rock Benue community as Bandits kill eleven persons.
Borikyo community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue state is under turmoil as angry youths protest incessant killings in the community. Eleven persons were killed on Tuesday night after bandits went on rampage killing armless residents in Ayati area of the local government leaving scores with several injuries.
According to one of the locals who disclosed this to newsmen in phone call, said six dead bodies have so far been recovered from last night rampage by the bandits. Angered by the killings, youths from Borikyo, this Wednesday morning blocked the Sankera -Ayati-Sai Road and Ukum Local Government secretariat gate with sticks, burn fire to register their grievances over the killings.
The Caretaker Chairman of Ukum LGA, Victor Iorzaa, when contacted said he was not in position to make any comment and pleaded to speak later while the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Benue State Command, SP Catherine Anene said the command is aware of the protest but yet to get details. Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har PSP, also confirmed the attack, saying the attack was the last kick of a dying horse, assuring that state government will take a swift action.
It would be recalled that operatives of the Benue Police command had dislodged bandits camp few days were it neutralized two, arrested some of them from same axis and recovered arms and ammunition and about 13 motorcycles from their camps.
