The Department of Environmental Protection and Control (EPC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) recently held a one-day consultative forum titled “
Integrated Strategies for Sustainable Ecosystem Restoration in the Niger Delta.”
According to the Director of EPC, Engr. Onuoha Obeka, this stakeholder engagement was essential to review past achievements, explore best practices, and assess current strategies for enhancing environmental quality and delivering sustainable projects in the region.
In addition to reviewing past successes, an action plan for 2025 was proposed. Participants were divided into syndicate groups, each presenting their ideas and strategies.
The meeting, held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, saw attendance from a wide range of stakeholders including delegations from the Federal Ministry of Environment, state ministries of environment and natural resources, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Nigeria Environmental Society (NES), the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYREP), the Marine and Blue Economy Development Initiative (MABED), state house of assembly members, and environmental law enforcement agencies, among others.
