Today, I had the honor of representing His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, at the 56th International Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) in Abuja.
On behalf of the Governor, I emphasized the need for a renewed focus on sustainable urban governance and inclusive development across Nigeria.
The Governor commended the NITP for promoting professionalism and sound planning practices, noting that urban planning must prioritize social equity, safety, and opportunities for all citizens. He stated, "Urban planning is far more than a technical exercise; it is a moral and social responsibility. It is about designing communities that reflect our collective vision for a sustainable future."
Under the MORE Agenda, Delta State is building livable cities, expanding infrastructure, and promoting inclusive development anchored on effective planning principles. The Governor urged town planners to innovate, collaborate with government, and translate their expertise into practical solutions for Nigeria's urban centers.
He commended the NITP for its commitment to excellence, advocacy, and professional integrity, noting that their contributions are vital to Nigeria's socio-economic progress. On behalf of the Governor, I called on policymakers to collaborate in generating actionable strategies to enhance urban governance and improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.
