Fejiro Oliver HAS BEEN GRANTED BAIL AT THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT ASABA, DELTA STATE !!!

Fejiro Oliver's Bail Application Update

In a significant development, the Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, has adjourned the bail application of detained journalist Fejiro Oliver to October 16, 2025. Oliver was arrested on September 18, 2025, over allegations of defamation and cyberstalking, following a petition by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ede Dafinone.

Background

Fejiro Oliver, publisher of Secret Reporters, was picked up from his Abuja office and flown to Asaba, where he has been held incommunicado.

His arrest has sparked widespread outrage among civil society organizations, media professionals, and concerned citizens, who describe it as a gross abuse of power and a deliberate attempt to stifle press freedom.

Court Proceedings

During the recent court session, the presiding judge, Justice Olufunmilola A. Agbaje, ordered Oliver's remand at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre. The journalist's bail application was adjourned to October 16, 2025, for ruling.³

Allegations Against Fejiro Oliver

The police alleged that Fejiro Oliver made publications on his Facebook account that amounted to cyberstalking the governor. Specifically, he was accused of referring to Governor Oborevwori as "Governor Amuneke" in a series of critical online reports. Other publications cited by the police included statements that the governor gave contracts to his associates worth billions of naira for election rigging and that he sent government officials to China to inspect CNG buses, among others.

Governor's Denial

In a counter affidavit, Governor Oborevwori denied ordering the arrest and detention of Fejiro Oliver. His counsel argued that the governor did not infringe on the journalist's fundamental rights and that the suit was instituted against him in his personal capacity, contrary to the immunity granted to him by the constitution.⁶

*Conclusion*

The case of Fejiro Oliver highlights the ongoing challenges faced by journalists in Nigeria and the need for greater protection of press freedom. As the court prepares to rule on the bail application, many are watching closely, hoping for a fair and just outcome.
