#Update: Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin Demands Apology from Donald Trump Over “Disgraced Country” Comment
Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to retract and apologize for his recent statement referring to Nigeria as a “disgraced country.”
In a statement released on Friday, Senator Jibrin condemned the remark as “undiplomatic, offensive, and unbecoming of a global leader,” emphasizing that Nigeria remains a respected sovereign nation with a strong democratic foundation and immense global influence.
“President Trump’s description of Nigeria as a ‘disgraced country’ is deeply insulting and completely unacceptable,” Jibrin said.
“He should retract that statement immediately and tender an unreserved apology to the Nigerian people.”
The Deputy Senate President reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the United States, stressing that mutual respect must remain the cornerstone of international diplomacy.
He also called on Nigerians to remain united and proud of the nation’s achievements despite external criticism, describing Nigeria as “a country of resilience, innovation, and global relevance.”
