The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B, in conjunction with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Petroleum Products Monitoring to the Delta State Government, successfully hosted a landmark symposium on oil security. The one-day event, held on January 23rd, 2026, aimed to advocate for the protection and security of Nigeria's national assets.

The symposium, themed "Oil Theft and the Niger Delta Crisis: The Role of Students in Safeguarding Our Future," brought together thousands of students from tertiary institutions across the South-South region, alongside government officials, security agencies, industry stakeholders, academia, and community leaders.

The event featured robust intellectual engagements, keynote addresses, and panel discussions, where key stakeholders in the oil and gas sector spoke extensively on the dangers of oil theft, its far-reaching impact on national development, and the critical role of youths and students in safeguarding Nigeria's oil and gas resources.

Speaking at the symposium, Hon. Kelly Erhijakpor, SSA on Petroleum Products Monitoring, Delta State Government, emphasized the need for Nigerian students to actively support national leadership efforts, particularly highlighting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he noted has demonstrated strong commitment to quality education and sustainable job creation.

The SSA also called on students to support Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who has served Delta State with notable impact and currently serves as the South-South Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He praised Senator Okowa's contributions to governance and development, while also expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his appointment.

Hon. Erhijakpor further stated his readiness to work closely with President Tinubu, Senator Okowa, and leaders across the South-South in promoting policies and initiatives that advance youth development and regional growth. He equally commended the Governor of Delta State for his developmental strides and pledged his continued support toward sustained progress in the state.

An exciting interschool quiz and essay competition formed a major highlight of the program, with deserving students and institutions rewarded with cash prizes and recognitions, further promoting academic excellence, critical thinking, and constructive student engagement.

Comr. Ovie Eseoghene Israel, Director of Action and Mobilization, NANS Zone B, remains committed to taking this initiative to other states, expanding student participation, and deepening youth involvement in national security awareness, education, and development initiatives across Nigeria.

The symposium marks the beginning of a broader advocacy movement, aiming to build a generation of informed, responsible, and patriotic Nigerian students, ready to safeguard the country's future.
