President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, visited Ogun State, where he inaugurated the Gateway International Airport in Iperu and unveiled the state-owned airline, Gateway Air, along with its fleet of aircraft.
This marks a significant milestone in Ogun State's development, positioning it as a major aviation and logistics hub in Nigeria.
The Gateway International Airport is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a 4,000-meter runway, Category II Instrument Landing Systems, and advanced navigation aids.
The airport is expected to boost trade, investment, and tourism in the region, with plans to operate cargo and passenger flights, including direct routes to Abuja and Port Harcourt.
Gateway Air, the state-owned airline, will operate in partnership with ValueJet, offering both passenger and cargo services.
The airline's inaugural fleet includes two aircraft, with plans to expand its operations and contribute to the state's economic growth.
During his visit, President Tinubu also commissioned other infrastructure projects, including the Ilishan-Iperu Airport Road, the reconstructed Sapade-Ilishan Road (now named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway), and the Gateway Aviation Village.
He also inspected the Nigeria Customs Service Village and the Forward Operating Base.
